Felt roof repairs in Fife are common for us to sort.
What are the common problems with felted roofs?
Bubbles, blisters and cracks are the most common problems with felted flat roofs.
If you come across these signs early enough then there is no reason why you should have further damage.
We recommend that you check your felt roof as often as possible, particularly at the end of summer and the end of winter as both sun and rain/frost can damage roof felt.

Bubbles and Blisters
It is quite easy to repair bubbles or blisters in a felt roof with some bitumen and a recommended contractor for the work.
Blisters or bubbles are caused when water penetrates the felt through a crack or hole and then expands with the heat and lifts the felt away from the roof.
If this is left untreated, it can lead to a much bigger problem.
Knowing When To Repair Or Replace A Felt Roof
A visual inspection from a recommended roofing contractor will give an indication of the general condition.
Internally you are checking for signs of water ingress or damp inside on ceilings, and outside: check the roof covering for the following:
Age or movement
Age or movement is often the cause of cracks and splits in bitumen felt.
After 15/20+ years of expansion and contraction and exposure to the elements, bitumen felt will lose its elasticity.
Your roof expands and contracts with heat and cold, but the felt won’t.
It has become hard and brittle.
Even when your roof is old, if the damage is in a particular area, for example one exposed to sunlight due to lack of grit a repair might be possible.
More modern felts have a mineral finish whilst older felt roofs will often have loose chippings covering the field areas to protect the roof from UV rays.
Lifting or badly stuck joints
Dry joints can be due to poor materials, workmanship, or again through age. A small amount of paint on water-proofer will again provide a temporary flat felt roof repair.
