What Is Laminate Flooring
With the look and texture of wood or stone, laminate flooring is a tough and durable man-made product that is easy to clean, pet-proof and easy to install.
Laminate makes a great choice for anyone looking for a floor they can fit and forget, even in the busiest parts of the home.
With different thickness, widths and lengths, laminate is great for homes that want the look of wood or tile, but with a floor that delivers great value. Packed to the brim with easy living advantages, modern generation laminates are ideal for homes that want a good looking floor on a budget.
The Look Of Laminate Flooring
The look of laminate floor is dependent on the printed decor layer meaning that any wood or stone look is possible.
From really rustic natural oak looks to very contemporary grey and white tile finishes there is a huge choice available on our laminate pages, meaning that laminate can make a great addition to your home no matter what your interior style.
Where Should You Use Laminate Flooring
Hard wearing, laminate flooring can be used in most areas of the home including dining and living rooms, hallways, kitchens and bedrooms.
However, it is important to remember that it’s still a natural product, so we do not recommend laminate flooring in bathrooms or any other high moisture environment.
If your home has underfloor heating, then laminate is also completely safe for use as it is stable enough to withstand direct heat.
However, when turning on the underfloor heating for the first time, or after a prolong period of being turned off, increase the temperature gradually over a period of days so that the floor can acclimatise to the change.
We always double check with our suppliers the use of each product so if you are supplying the laminate flooring to us, we can always double double check for you before fitting it.

Hardwood Floor Fitters Dundee
Quick-Step hardwood floors are engineered wood floors made up of three layers of solid wood, covered with a protective finish.
Thanks to the careful selection of raw material and a perfect control of the moisture content of the wood during the manufacturing process, hardwood floors guarantee optimum stability and durability.
1. Finishing layer
Depending on the Parquet floor you choose, this finishing layer may consists of:
- Seven layers of UV-cured water based lacquer. This lacquer protects your floor against wear, scratches and stains, and makes it as easy to maintain.
- Two layers of quality modified oil which creates an extra matt and natural authentic look and which ages gracefully.
2. Face layer
A carefully selected, solid wood layer in a vast array of colours and structures. Most Quick-Step engineered wood floors have a face layer of 3 mm thick. The ‘Compact’ range has a face layer of 2,5 mm. The surface layer can be sanded and refinished.
The core layer is what makes a floor stable and durable. It absorbs stress and strain and keeps the floor stable in all conditions. The balance between the hardness and the flexibility of the core material is crucial in ensuring a smooth click and a strong connection. The core consists of Spruce or HDF.
4. Backing layer
A backing layer of spruce or pine veneer. In combination with the other layers, it prevents the floor from cupping or warping.
Vinyl Floor Fitters Dundee
Vinyl flooring is 100 percent synthetic material. … Vinyl plank flooring, also called luxury vinyl flooring (LVF), is also 100 percent synthetic, but in these products, the core layer is a thicker, multi-layer PVC vinyl. Luxury vinyl comes in planks or tiles, sometimes called LVP and LVT, respectively.
Vinyl floors are a popular option among homeowners, particularly in kitchen and bathroom applications. A synthetic cousin of linoleum, vinyl flooring is water-and stain-resistant, versatile, and provides good durability for the cost. Thanks to a number of advances over the years, today’s vinyl floors are attractive and economical.
Types of Vinyl Flooring
There are two types of vinyl flooring: sheet flooring, in which the flooring material is laid down in sheets 6 or 12 feet wide, and tile flooring, which uses tiles of 9″x9″ or 12″x12″.
While sheet flooring is more water resistant and is easier to install, many homeowners prefer vinyl tile, which replicates the look of a ceramic tile floor at a more affordable cost.
A vinyl tile floor is often installed in commercial settings where high traffic is a constant, or where a clean or static-free environment is desired.
It can also be a versatile and cost effective choice for any household.
In the home, vinyl tile flooring is often used where a significant amount of moisture is expected. It is also frequently used in remodels to replace higher maintenance flooring, like carpet.
The makeup of a vinyl tile floor is made in one of two ways.
Inlay vinyl tile has multiple layers of the same coloured vinyl that are fused together.
With inlay tile, the colour or pattern goes all the way through to the backing. This is a plus because the colour will be the same, even if a layer or two wears away.
“Rotogravure” vinyl tile floors are less expensive than inlaid floors.
The tiles in this type of floor have a thin layer of vinyl on top that is coloured with vinyl paint and covered with a protective coating.
Over time or under extreme amounts of traffic, the layer of vinyl can wear through and the colour will be compromised.
